What is Witchcraft and Wicca?
I'm glad you asked! Witchcraft is the study and practice of magick. It's a pagan religion based on nature. The most common modern form of Witchcraft is called Wicca.
Wicca uses Witchcraft, but not all Witchcraft is Wiccan. Wiccans tend to follow a set of religious guidelines while the term Witch covers a very broad group of practitioners. These terms tend to get used interchangeably, but there is a difference.
I just settle into the category of "Witch" personally but everyone is different and can still learn from others that follow a different path. In a nutshell, Witchcraft is the practice of magick, divination, and the worship of Deity. Most individuals that practice the craft are very open-minded and flexible. It's tailored to exactly what feels right to you. So it can vary, sometimes drastically, from Witch to Witch. Customizing my craft is my favorite part about being a Witch. It's tailored to me, instead of me tailoring to fit into the religion.
What most Witches and Wiccans can agree on is the basic principle of "An it harm none, do as ye will." Also, karma and reincarnation play a pretty big role in the beliefs of many Pagans. But some Witches completely throw karma and non-harming out the window.
And yes, we do indeed cast spells and use magick. There are tons of pagans who use magick every single day. Before you start thinking we turn people into newts, it's not that kind of "Hollywood magic" portrayed to dazzle and entertain. Magick is a natural phenomenon and therefore must abide by the laws of physics. The power of our intention with the use of certain magickal tools brings about needed changes in our lives. To practice witchcraft you need to have an open mind about a lot. You also have to believe in it for it to actually work.
Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it's not there and can't have an effect on you. An example of this would be germs. You can't see them, but they can kill you. Now that microscopes have been invented we can prove the existence of germs and have shaped our lives around that knowledge. Just because we as humans haven't scientifically figured out exactly how magic works (yet) doesn't mean that it isn't real. Science is just a bit slow to study this phenomenon. I firmly believe that science and magick work side by side, so you don't need to reject one of them to use the other.
Witchcraft can help with things like protection, peace, money, clairvoyance, health, harmony, wisdom, and more. These things are accomplished through rituals and/or spells, either done alone or in a coven of multiple Witches. We ask only for what is needed when performing spells.
This is not to say that Witches leave everything up to magick. You can't just wave a magick wand and all of life's problems disappear. Mundane action must go alongside the spellwork. Magick only helps to clear a path towards your goals, but you still have to actually walk down that path to achieve your desire. If you're just looking for an easy ride through life, sorry to disappoint but Witchcraft is not the answer.
Nature is the center of this magickal life-style. The five elements (fire, water, earth, air, and spirit) are revered by all Witches. These elements are represented by the pentacle's five points. This symbol is often mistaken as a sign of the devil, but most Witches, in fact, do not worship Satan.
We live a peaceful life while incorporating worship of Deities, bringing only positivity to others, and appreciating/protecting nature. As a Witch, I know I am in control of every aspect of my life. There is no room for victims in the Craft. Every human has the power within themselves to improve their circumstances, even if it doesn't look like it.
Here on this website I share with you my digital Book of Shadows. It contains only that which I have felt a connection to, but that is not to say that my form of Witchcraft is the only right way. There are many paths that lead to the same spiritual enlightenment. Find yours and own it. I hope the information I give will help you along that path.
